IT’S confirmed – Good Hope FM apparently serves up the best breakfast, not only in Cape Town but also in the entire South Africa. The Good Hope FM Breakfast Show, hosted by Guy McDonald, won the coveted Best Commercial Breakfast Show 2015 award at the MTN Radio Awards ceremony last Saturday night.

The Breakfast Show format aims to be light-hearted, entertaining and informative and engages listeners with humour as the core thread of the show. Up against industry heavyweights and in a heavily contested timeslot, the award provides confirmation that the breakfast team, featuring Sandra Rosenberg (news presenter), Carl Wastie (sport) and Erin Lee Saunders (traffic) cracked the winning formula.

Judges took into consideration four criteria in order to select the deserving winners for each pre-determined category – innovation and creativity, presentation, value to the listener and production.

Winning an award in a national category for best commercial show in a prime time slot like ‘breakfast’ is a huge accomplishment for any radio station; “We are thrilled, Guy McDonald and his team have got such a good energy on-air and their listeners connect with them every morning, knowing that by doing so they will start their day off laughing and getting up to speed with whatever is happening that day,” says Good Hope FM Station Manager, Brendan Ficks.

The Breakfast Show is an anchor slot on any radio station and is one of the higher volume listener times of any weekday, the afternoon drive tending to be the other. “We are proud to say that, Fast Forward hosted by Seano, won best afternoon drive show in 2014, clearly we are onto something good here and we are working hard to make sure we keep innovating and growing our listenership “, says Ficks.

With the recently announced strategic changes in the station line-up and with 2015 being the 50th birthday year, Good Hope FM is striving to get the attention of new listeners every day “I am so stoked with this win – my team is so on the ball but we didn’t expect to receive this award, hard work really does pay off,” says Guy McDonald, host of The Breakfast Show.

“Watch this space – we are now even more amped than ever to deliver the best breakfast show in the country”.
