Durban — Emergency services worked for two hours to free a patient who was working in a trench when it collapsed and he was left critically injured.
On Tuesday afternoon, the KwaZulu Private Ambulance (KZPA) service responded to the town of Margate, south of Durban, after receiving reports of a person stuck in a collapsed trench.
KZPA spokesperson Craig Botha said that when emergency services arrived, they found that the patient had sustained serious injuries when a trench he was working in collapsed.
“Together with Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue services, EMRS Rescue and Netcare 911 specialised rescue services, paramedics stabilised the patient and worked for two hours to free the patient,” Botha said.
He said the man was left critically injured.
“The patient was transported to the hospital for further treatment and stabilisation,” Botha said.
