Private security company recovers 11 stolen, hijacked vehicles in six days

Durban — A private security company recently said it recovered 11 vehicles in six days in the south of Durban.

PT Alarms said this on Friday while sharing information about another recovery it had made.

The responders to the incidents were commended for their efforts to fight vehicle crime.

The company said the PT Tactical Tracker team members were on a roll with 11 recoveries in six days.

Here are some of their recoveries:

In the early hours of Friday, a gold Toyota Etios was stolen from the Chatsworth area. Its tracking device was activated and signalled (it was) in Umlazi. Responders searched for the vehicle and it was recovered it later in Folweni C section by Tracker Connect and PT Tactical unit members.

On Friday morning, a white Isuzu courier bakkie was hijacked in the Umlazi area by unknown gunmen. The vehicle was tracked by tracking teams and recovered in Y section Umlazi. Units involved were independent tracking company, Tracker Connect, Umlazi K9 and PT Tactical Unit members.

A blue Volkswagen Polo was stolen from the Morningside area by unknown suspects. Tracker Connect activated the tracking device and tracking teams were dispatched. After a few minutes of tracking the vehicle, it was recovered abandoned in F section Umlazi. Units involved were PT Tactical Unit members, Tracker Connect, Ethekweni District Trio task team and Umbilo Crime Prevention.

Gunmen hijacked a silver Suzuki Ertiga in the Isipingo Beach area, on Thursday morning and it was recovered in Folweni, a short while later. The driver was dropped off in Isipingo Rail by the suspects. The tracking device was activated and within minutes, tracking teams were mobilised. The vehicle was found abandoned in the Folweni township by Tracker Connect, followed by the PT Tactical K9 unit.

On Thursday morning a white Ford Ranger was stolen from the Congella, Durban area and was recovered shortly thereafter by Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) members assisted by other responders. The owner contacted Tracker Connect and the tracking device was activated. The vehicle was tracked and found abandoned on the Hans Dettman Highway by RTI. Units involved were RTI Pinetown, PT Tactical Unit, Tracker Connect, Safehouse Asset Protection and Boss Security.

On Wednesday morning a white Isuzu bakkie which was stolen from the Prospecton industrial area was recovered in the Mobeni Heights vicinity. The owner notified the Tracker Control Centre and immediately the tracking device was activated. PT Tactical unit officers together with Lamontville SAPS members mobilised in search of the vehicle which was signalling in the Mobeni Heights, Lamontville area. Within minutes, the bakkie was recovered after it was abandoned. Fortunately, there was no damage to the vehicle. Units that were involved were PT Tactical Unit, Lamontville SAPS, Tracker Connect and assistance from Boss Security.

On Monday afternoon, a joint effort by law-enforcement units and tracking teams led to the recovery of a hijacked white Mercedes Benz C250 AMG from the Chatsworth area. It is alleged that gunmen accosted the owner and took possession of the vehicle. The owner immediately notified Tracker Connect and the tracking device was activated. Tracking teams began searching for the hijacked vehicle. The vehicle signalled (it was) in the Umlazi area and all teams commenced tracking it. The vehicle was found partially stripped on a property. The suspects made a quick getaway when they were alerted to the presence of the tracking teams and law-enforcement officers. Units that were involved were Metro Police K9, Metro Crime Prevention, PT Tactical Unit members, Tracker Connect, Lamontville Crime Prevention, Pinetown RTI members, Mzansi Security, Umlazi SAPS and Boss Security.

On Monday morning, a truck that was stolen from Chatsworth was recovered in Adams Mission. While on patrol in the Adam Mission area, PT Tactical unit members spotted the vehicle and upon verification, discovered that it was stolen. The vehicle battery was missing and the registration plates were changed. Metro Police also assisted with the recovery.

In March two private security companies recovered 10 stolen and hijacked vehicles in seven days in the south of Durban.

PT Alarms, alongside other private security companies and police, recovered seven vehicles in seven days.

Recovered vehicles included a Toyota Avanza, Toyota Hilux bakkie, VW Polo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Ford Ranger.
