Durban — KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested three men in its ongoing drug clampdown in the province.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that on Tuesday, the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit followed up on information regarding a man that was selling drugs at Westcliff in Chatsworth, south of Durban.

Gwala said that police officers proceeded to the said place when they saw a man fitting the description of the person they were looking for leaving his flat carrying a bag.

“When he spotted the police vehicles he started to flee. Police officers gave chase and he was quickly nabbed.

“The bag was searched and 69 mandrax tablets, 333 capsules of heroin and 41 pieces of rock cocaine with a street value of R18 200 were recovered,” Gwala said.

She said that the 27-year-old suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs and detained at Chatsworth SAPS and was expected to appear before the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday).

Gwala said that police then went to Point where they arrested two men aged 28 and 38 who were found in possession of grams of heroin with a street value of R8 700.

She said that they were charged with dealing in drugs and they were also expected to appear before Durban Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday).
