Durban — A 35-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after she sustained five bullet wounds when 16 rounds were fired at her on Thursday afternoon.

Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said that a woman was shot multiple times on Elfbrook Place in Brookdale, Phoenix, north of Durban.

Balram said that Rusa received a call at about 1.30pm from a member of the public reporting multiple shots being fired.

He said reaction officers were dispatched to the area and located the scene of the shooting.

“It was established that the occupants of a white Toyota Yaris with registration ND287 455 fired 16 rounds at the victim, who was in the yard, before they sped off,” Balram said.

“Five bullets struck the female. She was transported to hospital prior to the arrival of first responders.”

Balram added that the motive for the shooting has not been established.

Police were approached for comment but had not responded at the time of publishing.
