Durban — The Ulundi Local Municipality has urged other political parties in the district to join them next month when they picket again outside the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court when Smanga Ncushela Dlamini appears again.

Dlamini, 45, is charged with the alleged murder of his girlfriend Ningi Gasa, 42, who was assaulted until she eventually died on Women’s Day.

On Thursday, deputy mayor Thembelihle Gaba Madela, along with other women in her party in the community, picketed outside the courtroom calling for Dlamini to be denied bail.

According to the deputy mayor, who was in court, Dlamini abandoned his bail application, and the matter was adjourned to September 8.

“I’m pleading to other women in the area, even those in other political parties, because this didn’t happen to just the IFP alone, we must unite as political parties, and they must come here to court the next time so that the court can see the magnitude of our concern over gender-based violence,” she said.

According to police, they were called out to the Sishwili area, where a 42-year-old was killed by a known suspect, and on arrival, they found the body of a female lying in a pool of blood with multiple injuries.

It is alleged that the 45-year-old man assaulted the deceased and then fled with a six-month-old baby.
