Durban — Inanda police are investigating a case of murder after a 26-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds on a pathway in White City, on Saturday.
Private security company Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said residents investigating the sounds of gunshots found the man dead.
Balram said that Rusa members were called to a location at approximately 6.29am.
“On arrival, Rusa members discovered that the man had been shot in the neck and back of his head. He showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead,” Balram said.
“Two spent 9mm cartridges were recovered near his body.”
Balram said that according to residents, they heard gunshots at approximately 2.30am. Upon investigation, they found the man’s dead body.
He added that details leading to the murder have not been established.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said: “Police in Inanda are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a 26-year-old man was allegedly found with gunshot wounds at Amaoti on November 30.”
The discovery comes days after the body of an 18-year-old man was found on the road with multiple stab wounds on Old North Coast Road, in Durban last Wednesday.
At the time, KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police in Greenwood Park opened a murder docket.
In October, a man believed to have been beaten to death was found on a pathway between Crow Place and Johanna Road in the Sea Cow Lake area, in Durban. Greenwood Park police are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a 39-year-old man was allegedly found on the side of the road at Kenville on October 3. He had multiple injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
