Durban — An uMlazi teen recently found guilty by the Durban High Court of the murder of a gay man he had been in the company of will know his fate in December.

Lwazi Bongokuhle Khumalo was 17-year-old at the time of the murder in 2022 will be sentenced for the murder of Senzokuhle Eugene Mthombeni who died at the scene as a result of multiple stab wounds.

The teen knew that Mthombeni was gay and he used this knowledge to his advantage to rob and kill him.

Khumalo relayed the events of the night of the murder to his school principal, his aunt, his mother, and at a later stage a commissioned officer of the SAPS.

Mthombeni died from multiple stab wounds on the neck, chest, and abdomen.

Khumalo was also found guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances, he used force and violence to induce Mthombeni into submission and took and stole from him his laptop (Hewlett Packard), A Samsung cellphone as well as a Hyundi Accent motor vehicle.

During the trial the court heard that Mthombeni, 35, who had been employed by Toyota lived in P section and that on the night of the murder he and the teen were in each other’s company at Mthombeni’s residence.

The duo were in the room that Mthombeni resided in and it was there that the accused decided to kill Mthombeni.

He stabbed him repeatedly in the upper body and neck, Khumalo took Mthombeni’s property and drove his car to B section Umlazi where he left it.

Soon after the events of the night of 20-21 May 2022 Khumalo sold the Mthombeni’s Samsung cellphone and HP laptop computer.
