On Tuesday, November 26, police raided the home of Durban businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize.

This comes after Mkhize failed to pay R37 million allegedly owed to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

“The KwaZulu-Natal Local Division of the Durban High Court has granted a preservation order and a search-and-seizure warrant in the case involving the Commissioner for SARS versus Shauwn Mkhize and others.

“This decision is a crucial step in SARS’s strategic objective to make it increasingly hard and costly for taxpayers who wilfully and intentionally engage in criminal activity,” SARS stated.

Netizens weighed in on the matter, with some saying Mkhize deserves what’s coming to her since she has been flaunting her wealth on social media, showing off her luxurious cars and designer clothes.

“Mamkhize is corrupt and a fraudster and should be behind bars,” said @joy_zelda.

Another X user, @spunkyP81, said: “She is corrupt all the way from RDP houses corruption where she made most of her money, and bribery of the investigating officer investigating that corruption. You reap what you sow. Nobody is above the law.”

However, others were defending her, saying police are unfair for targeting a black successful woman.

“Shauwn Mkhize (Mamkhize) is another example of why a black diamond should never shine, it must always get harassed and attacked by law enforcement because being black means corruption.

“How many white and Indian tycoons are behind in paying SARS? Strength to you MaMkhize,” said @TalkLessers.

Meanwhile, Mkhize has yet to comment on the recent raid.
