Gqom star Dladla Mshunqisi is stepping into Spring on a fresh note, with the release of new music and the return of his annual music festival Usuku Lomshunqo Music Festival.

Dladla Mshunqisi, real name Anele Dladla is known to bring the heat when it comes to music and his new release “Yini Lengaka” featuring Goldmax, DJ Tira and Siboniso Shozi is guaranteed to be a party starter as the country ushers into warmer weather conditions.

“This song will remind everyone why they fell in love with Gqom music,” said the Durban-based artist.

“Gqom has never died and will never as long as we still exist. Liyabhubha eDurban!”

Along with new music, Dladla Mshunqisi has announced the return of his much-loved Usuku Lomshunqo Music Festival after a two-year hiatus this November.

Having been staged in KwaMashu’s Artizen Lounge and Wiseman Car Wash respectively, the festival now moves to Berea Rovers, Stamford Hill, in the Durban CBD.

“After Covid-19 things were never the same and the lack of sponsors forced us to pause the event. But due to popular demand, we are excited to return to a bigger and better venue with an even more exciting line-up of my industry colleagues,” said Dladla Mshunqisi.

Billed to perform are Q Twinz, DJ Tira, Beast, Duncan, Zakwe, Big Zulu, Ayanda Ntanzi, Kabza De Small, Dlala Thukzin, Lerato Kganyago, Somizi, Sizwe Mdlose, Gagasi FM’s Sphectacula, DJ Naves, Sonic and DJ Happy Gal.

To his fans, Dladla Mshunqisi is known as one of the most popular artists in the country but he is also a businessman, offering him other income streams such as his exciting new business development for his food stall, Mshunqo Bites.

From this September Mshunqo Bites will be permanently located on Mathews Meyiwa Road between City View Shopping Centre and Total Garage in Greyville Durban.

“As creatives, we don’t always get bookings hence it is important to have other income streams.

“I started Mshunqisi Bites and now it has found a permanent home opposite Game City. We will be selling cooked meals including traditional and fast foods like your burger and chips.”

“Yini Lengaka” drops August 31. The 5th annual Usuku Lomshunqo Music Festival takes place November 30.
