Popular e.tv soapie “Scandal!” has paid tribute to their crew member Gary Megit, who died after a tragic on-set accident.

Taking to their official social media platforms, “Scandal!” acknowledge the passing that has left them shocked and deeply saddened.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened to share the passing of our dear crew member, Gary Megit. Gary suffered a serious accident on set last week and tragically passed away in the hospital on Sunday.

“Our hearts go out to Gary’s family during this incredibly difficult time. He was a cherished member of our team, and his loss will be felt by all who had the privilege of working with him. He will remain in our hearts forever,” read the tribute.

Megit, worked as a vision controller, and was injured while crew members helped to move a section of the “Scandal!” set.

In a statement shared with IOL, Stan Joseph, the CEO of production company, Ochre Moving Pictures – which produces the show expressed the team is devastated by the incident.

“This is a time of immense sadness. Our deepest condolences go out to Gary’s family. We are a very close-knit team on the show and are heartbroken by what’s happened. Gary was a cherished member of the team and will remain in our hearts forever.

“We ask that Gary’s loved ones and the 'Scandal!' team be given privacy and allowed to mourn with dignity during this painful time.”

Joseph added the production of the long-running TV show "Scandal!" places immense value and importance on the safety and security of its cast and crew. “We take the safety of our cast and crew very seriously. This was an unforeseen and tragic accident.”

News of Megit’s death broke on Monday, following several reports online.

“Death on the set of ‘Scandal’. An accident occurred during production of the popular etv soapie’s upcoming spin-off.

“A crew member was severely injured and taken to hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries,” wrote entertainment commentator Phil Mphela.

Fans have reacted to the unforeseen and tragic accident online.

Reign Nombuso Nkosi Sibeko said: “Yoh he's literally family to all scandal viewers even though we didn't know how he looked like. Our hearts are truly broken💔”

Jabulani Collen Masango said: “We may not have known him personally, but we feel sorry for his family and share in their sadness. Our condolences go out to them.”

Monica Phiri Mbalamweshi said: “This is sad news. Rest in peace Gary. Thank you for your contribution in the entertainment industry. Rest easy big guy.”
