Hosted by actor and presenter Siyabonga Radebe, a new reality dating show hopes to bring people together in the name of love.
Kheth’Omthandayo is no show for the faint-hearted - the suitor will be put to the test by their potential love interest, family and their friends.
In the first challenge, all four suitors will go through a questioning session by a panel that includes the love interest - whom they won’t know - and must prove why they could be the best Ms/Mr Right for the seeker.
In the end, one suitor will be eliminated based on this interrogation, leaving three to battle it out for the affection of their potential bae.
“The show is about people seeking to find people to go on a date with. The producers have turned it into a game show adding that extra bit of excitement and making it different from your regular dating shows,” Radebe said.

He said while they are aware that people on the show may not end up together, he hoped that by the grace of God a romance sparks and the contestant and the chosen one get to live happily ever after.
“Translated to English, the show’s name is ‘choose the one you love’, so at the end the contestant is left with two people and the ultimate choice is theirs. It’s obvious that they would not love that person immediately, but in Zulu we don’t have a word for ‘like’, you either love it or hate it,” he said.
Asked if he would participate in a dating show such as Kheth’Omthandayo, he said love is meaningful and beautiful, but he would have to think twice about putting himself out there.
“I’m not sure if I would ever put myself on a dating show on TV. TV is for entertainment and I think because I am on TV I always wanted a life outside of TV. So while I don’t frown upon those who do enter these competitions, I wouldn’t personally recommend it. That said, it is still very entertaining TV,” Radebe said.

He said they shot the show in a little less than two months and in that time he got to know the contestants.
“They are all really nice people and they all have their own reasons for wanting to seek a relationship on TV. One contestant said to me that if he approached four women in the township he would get beaten, but on TV it looks like such a cool thing to do,” Radebe laughed.
So does Radebe believe in love? Of course he does.

“I absolutely believe in love. I grew up with my grandparents in Durban and they lived together despite the challenges and pains they went through. My grandfather would often tell us stories about the hardships they endured but because they loved each other they survived. It’s the same value they instilled in my mom and me. Love is the foundation of life,” he said.
Radebe said he enjoyed shooting this show because he was reminded of all the effort put into bringing together a series.
“It’s been a long time since I did presenting and I got to remember how much work the crew does. When you watch the show, you will see me and the contestants, but the behind-the-camera crew need to take all the credit. I was excited and happy to be reminded of something that I had not taken notice off in a while,” he said.
He said viewers are in store for a fun-filled series of finding love in a funny and challenging way.
