The turbulent co-parenting plan between Elon Musk and Grimes has recently been making headlines all over the world.

Many have been wondering where the couple - who share three children - really stand with one another behind the scenes - and how much child support the richest man in the world pays his ex partner.

Canadian musician Grimes, 36, was first linked to Musk in 2018 and in the years that followed, they had three children together - the eldest being four-year-old son X Æ A-12, often nicknamed X.

However, the former couple - who also share a daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, three, and a son, Techno Mechanicus, two - became embroiled in a custody dispute in Texas in 2023 following their split, which has since been settled.

In August, Grimes and Musk appeared in court in Austin. The hearing was closed to the public and press.

Business Insider reported that Musk likely pays $2,760 (R50,870) per month, in child support for all three children - as this is the cap in the state of Texas.

Following the case, the musician claimed she was “going bankrupt” when asked about any upcoming projects.

Grimes wrote on Twitter at the time: "the threat of losing ur kids while going bankrupt fighting for them is not very conducive to creative thoughts.

"I just slept and cried every minute I wasn't explicitly fighting for my kids during that year."

In a separate post, Grimes claimed she'd only be receiving a 'fraction' of Musk's income, despite his mass wealth.

"Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn't have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/ strategy experience), all the while I didn't see one of my babies for 5 months," she wrote.

When the couple's eldest child X recently made a controversial appearance in the White House with his father, Grimes took to social media, admitting that she had no idea the Tesla CEO had plans to take their son to the Oval Office.

"He should not be in public like this," she replied to another user. "I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I'm glad he was polite. Sigh."

In the days that followed, Grimes also directed a public appeal towards Musk, imploring him to intervene in a medical emergency that one of their children was enduring.

"Plz respond about our child's medical crisis," Grimes wrote on Twitter, mentioning her ex specifically.
