Wendy Williams has been spotted in public for the first time in weeks, despite recent claims from her legal guardian that she is "permanently incapacitated."
The beloved former talk show host was filmed smiling from the back of a car, a rare sighting that has sparked reactions from fans and the public.
The video, shared on Instagram by blogger Antoine Edwards, comes at a time when Williams is grappling with a diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
Earlier this year, her team confirmed the diagnosis, stating in a public statement, "Aphasia, a condition affecting language and communication abilities, and frontotemporal dementia, a progressive disorder impacting behaviour and cognitive functions, have already presented significant hurdles in Wendy's life."
Williams has been under the guardianship of Sabrina E. Morrissey since 2022, after a series of health struggles, including Graves' disease, lymphedema, and battles with substance abuse.
Morrissey filed court documents in November claiming that Williams is "cognitively impaired, permanently disabled and legally incapacitated," making it clear that the TV star can no longer care for herself and is in need of ongoing care.
These legal documents, obtained by People magazine, state that Williams' health condition has severely impacted her memory, decision-making, and daily functionality.
"Being legally incapacitated means she is no longer able to make decisions for herself," Morrissey wrote, detailing the extent of Williams' condition.
Williams' medical team revealed in February that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a condition that impacts both language and behaviour.
Fans, however, expressed mixed emotions following the sighting. One Instagram user, @zbuckwhitfield 1d commented, “ I hope her family fights like Hell for her. We miss you, Wendy!"
Another fan, @missysmith0228, offered a message of support, writing, “I wish nothing but the very best for her. I am hoping this is just a huge misunderstanding. She’s such an awesome person."
Meanwhile, @itsciaranbitch 1d noted, that "She doesn’t look or sound ‘permanently incapacitated’. Something is super off with this whole mess."
