A learner’s matric ball is the highlight of their final year in high school.
People go out of their way with their outfits, pre-parties and how they go to the ball.
Back in the day, being chauffeured in a Mercedes or a sports car was as extravagant as it got.
These days learners are arriving in fancy limousines or a Rolls-Royce to make a grand entrance.
This matriculant, however, thought that a car simply won’t do.
An unidentified learner arrived at her matric ball in a coffin that was transported in an actual hearse.
Titled “Matric Dance South Africa 2024”, the TikTok video has gone viral with over one million views.
The clip shows the hearse arriving with a white coffin with black trimmings.
One can hear how stunned the crowd is by this unusual stunt.
When men in suits place the coffin on the ground, the top is lifted and the matriculant pops out of the coffin - alive and well.
The girl, clearly very excited about her grand entrance, is seen wearing a sparkly black floor-length gown.

While it was indeed an unusual entrance to her ball, some viewers were not impressed.
“Worse is the parents who are adults obviously paid for this,” commented one TikTok user.
“Hai they must just cancel matric dance. This is way out of order,” responded someone else.
Another said: “She’s playing with God this one.”
“Knocking on heaven's door, be careful what you wish for,” said another viewer.
“At least she knows what it’s like being in a coffin before death. Kodwa I would never do that,” responded another.
