JP Duminy, the former South African cricketer, and his wife, Sue, have announced their separation after 12 years of marriage.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2011 and share two daughters, confirmed the news on February 17, through a joint statement posted on social media. The two made it clear that their separation was amicable and requested privacy during this difficult transition.
The announcement comes after months of speculation about the state of their relationship, fuelled by their absence at public events and lack of joint posts on social media.
Fans had noticed the couple unfollowing each other on Instagram, with neither sharing pictures of the other, leading many to wonder if trouble was brewing behind closed doors.
In response to the growing rumours, JP Duminy took to social media: "Hi peeps. After much consideration, Sue and I have decided to part ways. We were fortunate to have shared many memorable moments together during our marriage and blessed with two beautiful daughters.
“We kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this transition. Though our paths diverge, we remain friends and our separation is amicable. Thank you for your understanding and support during this time."
Sue, a former model and fitness enthusiast, has remained active in various professional ventures. She maintains a private Instagram account where she shares glimpses into her personal life and career.
Before the separation, they had often spoken about the importance of their marriage.
In a 2016 interview with “TshisaLIVE”, JP shared insights into his marriage with Sue, highlighting the importance of faith in their relationship. He stated: "Always have God as the foundation of your marriage."
She echoed this sentiment, emphasising the role of spirituality in their bond: "If I am not OK with him, I cannot be OK with my husband. My whole being, my soul, my character stems from God."
Despite the end of their marriage, JP and Sue have made it clear that their focus will remain on their daughters and that they will continue to co-parent amicably. They have asked for understanding and privacy as they move forward.
JP and Sue's separation follows a growing trend of high-profile divorces in South Africa, with several well-known celebrity couples also recently parting ways.
In October 2024, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and his wife, Rachel, announced their separation after eight years of marriage.
The couple, who have two children, released a joint statement describing their split as "mutual and amicable" and expressed their commitment to co-parenting their children and continuing their work with the Kolisi Foundation.
Similarly, in November 2024, singer Bobby van Jaarsveld and his wife, Annatjie, announced their divorce after 13 years of marriage.
Comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout also announced his separation from his wife, Mica McKechnie, after less than two years of marriage.
