Durban - While repairs to the Western and Southern aqueducts have been completed, the city said the system may take some time to recover based on reservoir demand.

This was said by eThekwini Municipality on Wednesday.

The municipality said the process of filling affected reservoirs to raise water levels began immediately after the completion of repairs.

“However, system recovery is dependent on reservoir demand patterns and dependencies which may result in some reservoirs taking longer to recover,” it said.

The municipality also issued a public notice yesterday that the water supply would be interrupted in areas supplied by the uMmbumbulu Pipeline.

According to the city, the pipeline would be shut down to install a piping system in preparation for the commissioning of the uMmbumbulu Booster Pump Station by Umgeni Water.

“During this process, which will take place from 7am on Thursday, 18 August, the uMbumbulu Pipe will be shut off, drained, and isolated. It is expected that the work will be completed by 7pm,” said the municipality.

The city apologised for any inconvenience caused.

The following areas will be affected:

  • UMbumbulu Area (wards 96, 100 and 105): Mbovu, Mpushini, eZigeni, Pitela, NoNgidi, Ndindiza, Mphephethwa, Ndlandlama, Phangisa and Madundube.
  • Adams Area (wards 96 and 67): Diphini, Sheleni Road (Khanyile, Njapha, Gugulabanguni), Zwelisha, Nkangala, Ekuphileni and Shozi MaZungu.

For more information about water supply, the municipality said the public can call the toll-free number 080 311 1111 or use the eThekwini Water and Sanitation WhatsApp number 073 148 3477. Or email: [email protected]
