The Zululand District Municipality will welcome football teams and fans for the Premier’s Cup at Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium in Ulundi, on the weekend of July 27 and 28.

The tournament will see KZN’s finest six football teams battling for the top prize. This pre-season tournament was launched in Durban last week, where fixtures were revealed.

On the first day of the tournament, defending champions AmaZulu will face Lamontville Golden Arrows in the opening play-off. The second play-off will see Royal AM facing Milford FC. On the second day, Maritzburg United and Richards Bay United will face each other.

The Mayor of the Zululand District Municipality, Michael Khumalo, said it would be an opportunity to showcase the area’s rich culture and heritage. Khumalo added that it was always a pleasure to welcome visitors to the district, and that the tournament would bolster the local economy and tourism.

"As ZDM we believe in the power of sports, and we promote healthy lifestyles in our communities. It has always been our passion to uplift the community by encouraging sport as it has always been a unifying force that brings people from diverse backgrounds and fosters social cohesion,” said the mayor.
