Toyota's European-spec Corolla has been given its midlife makeover and Toyota SA has confirmed that it'll be launched locally in early 2017.
The front end has been completely redesigned, with a new bumper incorporating a smaller upper grille that’s flanked by restyled LED headlight clusters. Changes to the rear are more subtle, but include new LED taillights connected by a smaller chrome garnish.
A selection of redesigned 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheel designs round off the external changes, along with three new exterior colour options: Platinum Bronze, Tokyo Red and Earth Bronze.
Toyota has also revealed the new US-spec Corolla (pic five in the gallery), which features a more radical frontal design with small headlights and an oversized lower grille.
The Corolla has also been given a safety upgrade, with European models gaining the Toyota Safety Sense system as standard across the range. This system incorporates the Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Road Sign Assist and Automatic High Beam to help prevent or lessen the severity of accidents across a wide range of traffic situations.
Toyota has made no mention of the facelifted car's engine line-up so it should be safe to assume that local Corollas will soldier on with the current normally aspirated petrol engines (73kW 1.3, 90kW 1.6 and 103kW 1.8) and the 66kW 1.4 turbodiesel.
