Johannesburg - President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that his son received money from corruption accused facilities management company Bosasa.
Ramaphosa denied that the payment to his son Andile was for dubious dealings and said he had inquired to him about the payment.
The president was answering questions on Tuesday during Parliament's question and answer session. The question about his son was posed by DA leader Mmusi Maimane who said he was in possession of a slip and an affidavit confirming that Andile was paid by Bosasa.
Ramaphosa said his son runs a consultancy firm and confirmed the payment to him. He said he has always advised his children not to do business with the state.
"My son has a financial consultancy business and he consults for a number of companies. One of those companies is Bosasa. I asked him at close range whether this money was obtained illegally or unlawfully," said Ramaphosa.
"He is running a clean business. If it turns out there was any irregularity or corruption I will be the first, I assure you Mr Maimane, I will be the first to make sure he becomes accountable. I will take him to the police station myself," said Ramaphosa.
Bosasa has been making headlines lately as the company has been accused of paying bribes to a number of politicians.
ANC MP Vincent Smith stepped-down from chairing parliamentary committees after he was accused of receiving payments totalling over R500 000 from Bosasa. But he denied that the payments were a bribe and said they were part of a loan from the company.
EFF leader Julius Malema quipped after Ramaphosa's answer saying it was not fair for Ramaphosa's son to be allowed to produce invoices while Floyd Shivambu's brother, Brian, was not afforded the same treatment.
Brian has been accused of receiving money from VBS and he also accused of paying out some of the money to his older brother Floyd.
