Pretoria - The Miss South Africa pageant has finally joined the digital era with the launch of the Miss South Africa App for entries, voting, and exclusive content for this year's annual competition.

The Miss South Africa organisation announced that it had launched Miss South Africa App as the new content hub for all exclusive content, voting, and entries for the upcoming 2022 pageant.

The organisation said young women from all over the country would from April 1 be able to submit their applications for a chance to follow KwaZulu-Natal born Lalela Mswane who is the current holder of Miss South Africa 2021 and represent the country on the global stage.

Mswane was crowned Miss South Africa 2021 during the 63rd edition of the pageant held on October 16 2021, at the Grand West Arena, Cape Town.

She also went on to come in as the second runner-up when she represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2021, and will also represent South Africa at Miss Supranational in July 2022.

“We are proud to announce the launch of the official Miss South Africa App. The app is aimed at expanding the Miss SA digital platforms and adding a new dimension to the Miss SA Competition,” said Stephanie Weil, CEO of the Miss South Africa Organisation.

Weil said the official Miss South Africa App would allow fans to not only have a say in who the next Miss South Africa would be but also a chance to read up on and get to know the contestants, vote for their favourite, view exclusive content, buy Miss SA merchandise and learn more about this year’s competition.

Entries will open at 9am and officially close at 11pm on April 30, with a “How to” educational video series available on the app which entrants are encouraged to view.

"The series includes videos on how to make your entry stand out, your digital footprint, frequently asked questions for Miss SA 2022, how to formulate your “why?” or purpose when entering, and the importance of your mental well-being when entering."

Those who wish to enter can simply download the app, answer a few questions, and upload entry pictures.

Entrants will also be required to post their 45 seconds introduction video on social media as part of the entry process by using the hashtag #MissSA2022 and tagging Official Miss South Africa on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

"The Miss South Africa Organisation continues to make the entry process as accessible and easy as possible which means there are no forms to download and no regional auditions to which hopefuls have to travel," Weil concluded.
