Not many people I know have ever heard of Skagen (pronounced with a silent “g” in Danish). But on our recent Baltic cruise, we spent a day in this beautiful city and learnt so much about Danish history and culture.

Such unique and wonderful architecture in this port city where the Danes like to spend their summer vacations.

I learnt to love this Danish word – HYGGE! It encompasses everything from ‘a warm welcome and being cosy, comfortable and friendly to a feeling of happiness and peace’.

The oldest hotel in town which still retains its heritage style and furnishings.

The local famous beer went down so well with the delicious, freshly fried fish and crispy chips.

The White Lighthouse used to be right in the sea but as the land has developed, it has now become obsolete and on land. It is one of three lighthouses in Skagen as it is an important Danish port.

My love and passion for taking photos of doors all over the world continues.

The water tower and stunning wrought iron signage adds such charm and character to Skagen.
