Cape Town - Aspiring pro cyclists take note. The time has come to start dusting off your tricycles and training wheels in preparation for the Cape Town Cycle Tour Junior next month.
The fun-filled kiddies extravaganza Cycle Tour Junior is set to take place at Youngsfield Military Base in Wynberg on Saturday, March 5. The event starts at 8am.
A day of cycling and activities await the eager young cyclists with shows and prizes signalling the end to the exciting day. While entries are still open for the event, the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust ensures that these are limited for the purpose of providing a safe environment for the young cyclists. The event aims to introduce the basics of cycling safety and etiquette to the 3 500 expected young riders in the hope that they will one day tackle the 109km Cape Town Cycle Tour race.
Parents and entrants have been reminded of the “no helmet, no ride” rule which applies to everyone taking part in the races in support of the Cycle Tour Trust’s ongoing safety initiative.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour Junior has five distances which caters to a variety of different ages and skill levels including a 700m ride designed for younger rides up to the age of six. Longer routes of 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km and 10km are available for more experienced, older riders from the age of six to 12. While these routes guarantee a fun, safe cycling experience, riders are ensured of an exciting challenge aimed at getting the heart rate up and the blood pumping.
Parents must accompany the younger riders entering the 700m route on foot, but are welcome to ride alongside the older riders in the longer routes.
Online entries are still open for the event, with registration taking place at Canal Walk Shopping Centre from Thursday until March 4.
