Former Kaizer Chiefs player Jabu Mahlangu has launched a scathing attack on Bafana Bafana legend Linda Buthelezi, following his remarks that the former Chiefs dribbling wizard cannot be considered as a legend.

This follows Mahlangu’s inclusion in the Kaizer Chiefs Legends squad that faced off against Bloemfontein Celtic Legends in the Toyota Cup on Sunday.

Buthelezi claimed that while Mahlangu had the potential to be a great player, he cannot be referred to as a legend as he messed up along the way.

Not mincing his words, Mahlangu took to Instagram on Tuesday and slammed the Afcon winning Buthelezi, describing him as a “cow and a dirty player” and adding that no one remembered his name as part of Bafana.

“First of all, I never said I wanted to be a Chiefs legend, and I have not referred to myself as a legend. So I’m surprised that you, Linda, are saying I’m not a Chiefs legend. I never wanted that.

“I’m Jabu Mahlangu, a child of God like any other person. And now you’re saying I wasted my career. Who are you? Because even when Bafana legends are named, your name is not there. No one remembers you," Mahlangu said.

Mahlangu also criticised Buthelezi’s playing style during his playing days and branded him dirty.

“You are a legend of red cards and yellow cards and dirty playing, you are a cow, I won’t listen to another man dragging my name through the mud from nowhere,” he said.

The term legend is usually used to describe past football players who have had long and exceptional careers in football.
