Peter Hawkings has stepped down as the creative director of Tom Ford. The British designer has left the brand less than a year after making his debut at New York Fashion Week.

Although he only took the job as the creative director last year, Hawkings has been with the brand since 2005.

The Tom Ford Group thanked him for serving the company well. “I would like to express my gratitude to Peter for his exceptional contributions to Tom Ford from the very beginning,” said Guillaume Jesel, the president and chief executive at Tom Ford.

Lelio Gavazza, CEO of Tom Ford Fashion at Ermenegildo Zegna Group, added: “Along with his team, Peter has contributed to this important initial phase of development. I wish him all the best in his next chapter.”

Hawkings is one of many creative directors who have been leaving big fashion powerhouses.

We’ve recently seen Virginie Viard leave Chanel after taking over from the late Karl Lagerfeld in 2019. Matthew M. Williams, former creative director of Givenchy parted ways with the brand three years after being in the role. His departure was announced in December 2023.

Meanwhile, Hawkings is set to showcase his exit collection in September this year.
