Johannesburg - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have bemoaned the decision by the ANC to expel its members if they did not toe the party line in rejecting the Section 89 Independent Panel Report which found that President Cyril Ramaphosa has a case to answer for.
"The decision to decline a secret ballot while Members of Parliament have been threatened with expulsion if they do not vote in a particular manner by the ruling party, remains irrational, factional, and partisan," said the EFF.
The party said the proceedings in parliament yesterday were the beginning of a war in defence of constitutionalism and the rule of law.
"Ramaphosa will not survive Phala Phala Farm, and his legacy will be that he undermined the rule of law in South Africa. He will never know peace, and his best course of action remains immediate resignation, because the EFF will ensure he leaves the office of the President of South Africa disgraced, exposed, and without a cent," it said.
The EFF further commended all opposition parties who voted in defence of the Constitution "against the rampant criminality of an organised criminal network controlled by Ramaphosa," they said.
A senior MP told The Star’s sister publication, Cape Argus, that Ramaphosa’s opponents faced the threat of expulsion if they spoke out ahead of MPs preparing to cast their votes on the Section 89 report.
According to the publication, ANC chairperson Gwede Mantashe is said to have instructed MPs to outright reject the adoption of the Section 89 report into the Phala Phala scandal.
