Four boys were rescued after being trapped in a drainage system in Kliptown yesterday afternoon, Joburg emergency management services said.
Emergency services spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said that the community was alerted by other children that the group of boys, aged between eight and 14, were trapped in the drain.
After searching the area, emergency services located the boys and worked for an hour to free them. The boys were unharmed.
One of the boys told emergency services that children normally played in the open drainage system.
“We appeal to the community not to let children play near the drains because it is dangerous,” Mulaudzi said. – Sapa.
