A PIKITUP refuse collector was trapped under his truck for more than an hour in Soweto last night after the driver lost control.
Johannesburg Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said: “He was trapped between the horse and the carriage. After an hour we managed to free him. He was stabilised and transported to Tshepo-Themba private clinic in Dobsonville.”
The accident took place just after 6pm on the corner of Chris Hani Road and Sibisa Street.
“The man has spinal and head injuries,” said Mulaudzi. He said the injured refuse collector was aged between 30 and 40.
“Apparently the driver lost control on the curve, and then he hit some sand and bricks piled outside a home,” he said.
Two other men in the truck sustained minor injuries. The rubbish remained inside the overturned truck.
