Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has pinned the team's chances of success in Saturday's Soweto Derby on their ability to stick with the coach's prescribed gameplan for the Premiership Soccer City showdown.
Maart has not been too popular of late and was booed off the ground after the recent Sekhukhune United clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium. He is nevertheless a key player for Chiefs and will be at the forefront of the team's quest for victory on Saturday.
"It is obvious both teams want to win this match," said Maart. "I don't mind saying and you can put it out there (in the public domain) it will be about who puts the most effort in.
"For us as the players, we'll travel with this belief. We must put into play what the coach wants us to do and how he wants us to play according to his game plan.
"So, to win the match we must stay with the plan, and everything will work out."
The Cape Town-born Maart started his pro career at Orlando Pirates in the 2017 season when he first experienced the magnitude of the Soweto Derby. During Thursday's Soweto Derby pre-match presser, Maart reflected on his early experiences.
"I think when I was a Pirates player, you could see how big the derby game was," said Maart. "When we used to go to the stadium to watch the derby game your wish for yourself was that one day, you can be part of it.
"For me, it would have been a great chance for us to be part of a big team. You know you get that feeling that everyone also has around the stadium. It was a great feeling. " | Independent Media Sport
