Durban will celebrate Heritage Day with a major music event featuring Sjava, Big Zulu, and Lwah Ndlunkulu at the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert in the Durban Botanic Gardens.
The show, taking place on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, will bring together three of KwaZulu-Natal’s most successful artists, each with a strong following and a reputation for shaping South Africa’s contemporary music scene.
Sjava has built a career blending Afro-soul and hip-hop, earning both local and international acclaim for what organisers described as his “raw and authentic sound.” Big Zulu, best known for hits such as Imali Eningi, has become a prominent voice in South African rap, while Lwah Ndlunkulu’s rising popularity has made her one of the most recognised new Afro-pop voices.
The line-up is intended to capture the essence of Heritage Day. Together, these three artists embody the spirit of Heritage Day, celebrating South Africa’s diverse cultural identity through music that resonates deeply with audiences across generations.
Old Mutual, which sponsors the Music at the Lake series, said its involvement was about more than entertainment. Bandile Mngoma, Senior Manager: Sponsorships and Events at Old Mutual, said: “At Old Mutual, we believe that access belongs to everyone. Access to opportunity, to financial growth, and to moments of joy and connection. Our support of Music at the Lake is about more than music; it’s about creating a space where every voice can be heard, and every story can be celebrated.”
Mngoma added that the event on Heritage Day was part of the company’s commitment to building stronger communities.
“On Heritage Day especially, this partnership reflects our commitment to unity, diversity, and building stronger communities. Just as music brings people together, we want South Africans to know that no matter where they are in their journey, they can start building their future from here. We’re proud to help make that possible in the heart of Durban’s iconic Botanic Gardens,” he said.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring picnic baskets and enjoy the outdoor setting with family and friends. Gates open at 1pm, and tickets are available through Webtickets.
