Oceans Mall in uMhlanga is set to host fun events for families and the wider community this October.
On Saturday, October 4, the mall will host the Trick or Treatober Candy Treasure Hunt.
Families and young trick-or-treaters will follow clues, solve quizzes, and compete for more than 50 prizes. Two sessions will run, from 11am to 12 noon and 2pm to 3pm, each accommodating 100 families.
Every registered family will receive a guaranteed goodie bag, with the top 40 families per session winning additional prizes.
“At Oceans Mall, we believe malls should be more than shopping destinations, they should be platforms for connection, celebration, and shared experiences,” said Natasha Modi, CEO of Modism Holdings, the mall’s marketing agency.
“Through events like our Trick or Treatober Candy Hunt, we’re giving families the opportunity to make memories, enjoy creativity, and celebrate together in a safe, festive environment.”
Registration costs R 100 per family, covering up to four people. Entries are capped at 200 and close on October 1.
Later in the month, the mall will host the Fit Fam Fun Day: Martial Arts Edition on October 26, from 9am to 12 noon. The event follows the launch of Fit Fam Fun Day earlier this year.
“When we launched Fit Fam Fun Day, our goal was to introduce the community to fitness in all its forms. The positive response has been incredible,” Modi said.
“For Season 2, we wanted to build on that momentum by focusing on martial arts, not only to showcase the diversity of these disciplines, but to bring families, participants, and the wider community together through shared experiences that combine fun and entertainment.”
The programme will start with a Chinese Ba Duan Jin warm-up, followed by a 10-station martial arts circuit covering disciplines including Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Capoeira, Karate, Judo, Kobudo, Muay Thai, and Wrestling. Up to 150 participants are expected, with rewards including Krispy Kreme and Sneaker Shack vouchers, gym memberships, and martial arts gear.
These activities come after the mall’s Heritage Month showcase in September, during which artists, performers, and crafters were given complimentary exhibition space and social media exposure.
The showcase included curated exhibitions, a talent show, and opportunities for artists to sell their work.
“This initiative was about giving back to the very community we live in, opening our spaces to our community, for our community,” Modi said.
