City of uMhlathuze mayor Xolani Ngwezi has expressed gratitude to the municipality's council and staff after it received a clean audit.

The City of uMhlathuze (Richards Bay) has once again set a benchmark for financial excellence, announcing “a clean audit outcome” for the 2024/2025 financial year.
This latest achievement marks the municipality’s sixth consecutive clean audit and the eleventh overall.
The municipality said in a statement that in its assessment, the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) confirmed “zero irregular expenditure, zero wasteful and fruitless expenditure, zero unauthorised expenditure, no material irregularities, and no emphasis of matter.”
According to the City, this outcome is “a testament to robust internal controls, disciplined financial management, and the ethical leadership guiding the institution.”
The City also highlighted the collective effort behind the achievement, noting that the Mayor Xolani Ngwezi, expressed “profound gratitude to the council, Executive Committee (Exco) and several committees including Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), Performance Audit Committee, Enterprise Risk Committee”, and “all stakeholders whose dedication and professionalism made this achievement possible.”
Looking ahead, the municipality reaffirmed its continued focus on responsible governance, stating that it “remains committed to maintaining sound financial management, strengthening governance structures, and upholding the highest standards of accountability and transparency in the years ahead.”
