Durban’s arts scene reaches its highlight next week as the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra brings its most anticipated national tour, Voices of Home, to the Playhouse Opera Theatre.

This landmark musical celebration promises to be one of KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest cultural moments of the year.

Led by world-renowned conductor Marin Alsop, the performance features South African cello visionary Abel Selaocoe and percussion maestro Bernhard Schimpelsberger.

Their collaboration creates a thrilling fusion of global orchestral excellence and South African musical soul.

A key highlight is the South African tour debut of Selaocoe’s Four Spirits Cello Concerto, a transformative work shaped by ancestral memory, rhythm, and spiritual energy.

Paired with Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 2, audiences can expect an emotionally charged evening filled with beauty, depth, and celebration.

“Voices of Home is our tribute to unity, heritage, and the extraordinary musical stories of South Africa,” said Bongani Tembe, CEO and Artistic Director of Mzansi Philharmonic.

To make the experience even more accessible, Mzansi Philharmonic will offer a Park and Ride service at R60 from St Agnes Church in Kloof, at Westville Senior Primary School, and Caister lodge on the Berea to the Playhouse, ensuring safe, convenient transport for concert goers.

As part of its community outreach, the Orchestra will also perform at Victoria Mxenge Hospital, previously known as King Edward Hospital, on December 15th at 11am,extending the healing spirit of music beyond the main stage.
