A friend of radio and TV presenter and podcaster Warrick Stock has described him as a person who had respect and love for all people and connected effortlessly with them.

Stock, 40, who was popularly known as DJ Warras or  "The Shady Lurker" is being laid to rest today at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rosebank. Stock was fatally shot on Tuesday by three assailants while leaving the Zambezi building opposite the Carlton Centre in the Johannesburg CBD.

It is suspected that his death may be linked to his security work connected to hijacked buildings. Stock had taken out five protection orders prior to his murder.

Two suspects have been charged with his murder and are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

Arnold Eckersley, who has been friends with Stock for more than 30 years, said they grew up together in Vryheid in KwaZulu-Natal and from an early age it was evident that Stock was a natural storyteller.

“He made friends easily and his friendships were real. He was a natural storyteller. He was a loyal friend, always willing to help.”

Eckersley added that Stock was a patriot, unafraid to speak his mind when something did not sit well with him.

He said while they saw each other less often when they grew up, every time they connected, it was always clear that Stock deeply loved and respected his family.

“Warrick lived fully, he loved deeply, he challenged thinking. He told stories that connected us and brought people together. His impact will live on through his children, his family and all of us who were lucky enough to know him.

“To Warrick's boys: Your dad loved you deeply and was so proud of you,” Eckersley said.

The Gauteng Provincial Government has welcomed the arrests of two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of media personality DJ Warras.

Police confirmed on Monday that they had taken the suspects into custody following their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of Warras last week.

It was previously reported that Warras was shot outside the Zambezi Building, where he had been working to secure property from criminal syndicates controlling hijacked buildings.
