Kearsney College is celebrating its matric pupils' outstanding results for Further Studies Mathematics (Calculus and Algebra).
The results were released by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) on Tuesday.
In a statement, Kearsney said 65% of candidates who wrote FS Mathematics achieved distinctions (80% and over).
The 11 pupils who achieved As are Hayden Dunston (92%), Joshua Griffiths and Raine Scoular (both 91%), Kantse Masilo (89%), Kaylin Moodley (88%), Liam Oets and Josh Robertson(85%), Jason de Gryse (84%), Oliver Tubb (82%), Nicholas Comrie (81%) and Kade Rencken (80%).
The success of Masilo in the subject is significant, the school noted as he had only been achieving 53% in Mathematics when he started at Kearsney and required a concession in order to qualify to study FS Mathematics.
He credits the move to Kearsney in Grade 9 as a major factor in his academic success.
Hard work and support saw his year-end mark for FS Maths in Grade 11 jump to 67%, 77% in matric trials and 89% for his final IEB examinations.
“My work ethic was a product of my environment and being in a boarding space allowed me to adopt the mentality to succeed academically,” he said.
The IEB is scheduled to release the results for all other subjects on January 13.
