Police have arrested four suspects wanted for a range of serious crimes, including murder, rape, house robbery and attempted murder, following an operation by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Tracing Team.

In a statement, the SAPS said the suspects, aged between 36 and 40, were arrested on Tuesday in Umlazi.

One of the arrests relates to an incident that occurred in December 2023 at the Magugu area under the St Faith policing precinct. According to police, a 39-year-old man was at his home with a female companion when a suspect allegedly forced his way into the house, attacked the man and raped the woman before fleeing with her cellphone.

The suspect, aged 37, was traced and arrested in the early hours of Tuesday. He has been charged with murder, rape and house robbery.

During the same operation, police arrested three more suspects in connection with a separate case of attempted murder. The incident is alleged to have taken place on November 1, this year in Umlazi, when the suspects confronted a man about his friend who allegedly owed them money and a firearm. When the victim denied knowing the friend’s whereabouts, he was allegedly shot and robbed of two cellphones.

Police said the victim survived the attack, and the three suspects were traced and arrested on Tuesday in Umlazi. They face charges of attempted murder.

All four suspects are expected to appear in the Phungashe and Umlazi Magistrates’ Courts on Friday, 2 January 2026.

Meanwhile an off-duty SAPS officer is among four suspects who were arrested by Durban Metro Police in connection with an attempted business robbery and kidnapping in the Durban CBD.

In a statement, the Metro Police said members responded to a robbery in progress on Anton Lembede Street, outside Doone House in the Durban CBD.

“The suspects fled the scene using an e-hailing vehicle and were immediately pursued. Members intercepted and brought the vehicle to a stop near ICESA College on Anton Lembede Street. A total of four male suspects were arrested, one of whom is an off-duty serving member of the South African Police Service.”

The Metro police said two firearms and a knife were confiscated. It was confirmed that one of the firearms is a state-issued firearm belonging to the off-duty SAPS member.

The suspects were handed over to Durban Central SAPS for arrest and further processing.
