A 14-year-old Limpopo teenager appeared in the Namakgale Magistrate's special court on Thursday charged with the rape of two children in the Gravelotte area.
The teenager faces two counts of rape following his arrest on Tuesday. The arrest was made after the victims' guardian was alerted that a suspect, known to them, had lured her son and his cousin to bushes near a railway line.
The incident reportedly took place on January 3, 2026, at approximately 3pm. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspect lured the victims, aged eight and nine, to a secluded area.
“The preliminary report suggests that the suspect lured the victims to the nearby bushes and raped one of the victims,” the police statement said.
“Afterward, he compelled the other victim to rape his friend.”
The two young victims were taken to a hospital for medical evaluation where it was confirmed that they had been sexually assaulted.
Major General Jan Scheepers, the Acting provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, welcomed the swift arrest by Gravelotte police. He further urged parents or guardians to take extra care and to be aware of their children's whereabouts at all times.
The suspect has been charged with rape and compelled rape. He is set to appear in court again next month.
“The male suspect will appear again on Thursday, 05 February 2026, at Namakgale Magistrate's Court,” the SAPS stated.
