The National Consumer Commission (NNC) has announced a recall of Benny Beef and Chicken Stock Cubes due to incorrect salt labelling.
The consumer watchdog confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday, saying that the sodium content in the product may be higher than what is shown on the packaging.
"The National Consumer Commission (NCC) hereby notifies consumers of the recall of all Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes, as notified by Tiger Brands," the NCC said.
The recall includes all Benny Beef and Chicken Flavoured Stock Cubes sold in 12, 24, and 48 cube packs. These batches have been available since 2023 and carry a best-before date of 31 July 2027.
The sodium content declared on the product packaging may be inaccurate. According to Tiger Brands, the actual sodium levels could be higher than what is printed on the label.
Incorrect sodium labelling can affect consumers who need to monitor their salt intake due to dietary or health reasons. The National Consumer Commission warned that inaccurate nutritional information may prevent consumers from making informed choices.
If you have bought these stock cubes return the products to the supermarket, wholesaler, or retail outlet where you purchased them. Consumers will receive a full refund or a coupon without needing proof of purchase.
Tiger Brands is working with retailers and wholesalers to remove all affected Benny Flavoured Stock Cube products from store shelves.
Consumers can contact the Tiger Brands consumer careline for more details or assistance.
