Woolworths resolves supply issues, promises full shelves by week's end

Woolworths shelves are expected to be full by the end of the week at the latest, following shortages that the retailer experienced last week.

According to the retailer, their supplier resolved their internal challenges, and production started on Friday. 

"Our supplier has resolved their internal challenges; production started on Friday and has been fully restored," Woolworths said. 

"Product can take a few days to navigate our supply chain, but we are certain our shelves will be full soon - by the end of the week at the latest."

Woolworths said their top priority is to provide customers with the quality Woolies meat they love.

Produce and meat shortages

In a statement to IOL last week, the retailer said they are aware of temporary shortages that affected the supply of fresh produce and meat to some Woolies stores, particularly in Gauteng.

Woolworths said that supplier-related issue was behind the meat shortages and the product levels on Woolies shelves.

"Our supplier is in the process of resolving this, and we’re confident supply will be back to normal shortly," Woolworths said. 

"There is, however, more stock of poultry, duck, venison, fish, and prepared meals at Woolies stores to make up for this gap in availability – we hope this will give our customers suitable alternatives in the meantime."

The retailer also touched on the impact that heavy rainfall had on their fresh produce which affected their supply of lettuce, spinach, and cauliflower, among other items.

Woolworths said: "Our teams are working hard to source produce from alternative regions, and we hope to see this corrected over the next week."
