Missing German tourist, Nick Frischke.
Cape Town - The main suspect accused in the robbery of missing German tourist Nick Frischke has been fingered by his co-accused as the person who stabbed him.
This was revealed by the lead investigator into Frischke’s robbery and disappearance, who took the witness stand on Thursday at the Wynberg Regional Court.
The courtroom was packed with German students, missing persons organisation Track n Trace, and other activists, who have been following the case.
The trial against the four alleged 28s gang members resumed with Ishaam Fischer, Melvin Geunantin, Vanroy Petersen and Carlo Geunantin taking the dock on Thursday.
They are facing charges relating to the robbery of Frischke and several other robberies, which allegedly took place in Hout Bay.
The charges include robbery, housebreaking, firearm and ammunition-related charges and charges under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (Poca).
They have pleaded not guilty despite the presence of DNA in some instances.
Frischke, who has been missing for two years next month, disappeared while hiking on the Hangberg trail, which runs along Hout Bay and Sandy Bay.
The State is set to prove the alleged gang members robbed Frischke of his personal belongings including his Redmi Note 8 Pro cellphone and backpack.
Lead investigator, Dudley Truter, read from an affidavit taken by Melvin Geunantin in which he fingered Fischer stabbing Frischke after robbing him of the cellphone, and that the tourist could not walk properly after he was wounded.
The cellphone had been found in Geunantin’s possession following his arrest, who claimed that he had bought it for his daughter.
The affidavit further revealed Geunantin felt compelled to speak with police after what he had seen.
The matter has been postponed to April 4 for continuation of the detective’s time on the stand.
