Set against the vibrant tapestry of South Africa's natural environment, the book follows the adventures of Kgaga, a pangolin navigating the challenges of her habitat, and Baboloki, a young Tswana man dedicated to safeguarding pangolins and other wildlife in his tribal area.
As Kgaga experiences the vulnerability of parenthood with the arrival of a precious pup, the duo must confront new threats that seek to disrupt their delicate ecosystem.

According to Barry, this family-friendly tale, adorned with stunning illustrations that capture the pangolin's heartfelt struggle, promises to resonate with readers of all ages.
Barry’s approach melds her rich experiences as a preschool and junior phase teacher with her deep-rooted passion for engaging children in a dialogue about the wonders of our natural world.
After many years of dreaming of writing, she is finally realising her vision with this exciting new literary series that aims to inspire a connection with nature in young minds.
Barry, who trained at the Johannesburg College of Education, draws inspiration from her surroundings on the Dolphin Coast, where the daily visitations of dolphins, whales, monkeys, and a kaleidoscope of birds ignite her creativity.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, she shared her motivations: “It has always been a source of immense joy to introduce my own children to the wonders of our natural world.”
With a profound appreciation for small wonders observed during sun-soaked afternoons, Barry hopes her stories will open a doorway into the magical realm of nature for many more young imaginations.
“I've been asked by many, 'What age group is the book suitable for?' Well, I hope that ‘Pangolin Prophecy’ will be enjoyed by readers aged 2 to 102! This is a family reader,” Barry stated.
She elaborates on her writing style, which employs narrative prose designed to engage even the youngest listeners.
“My time as a teacher taught me that young children benefit from hearing language beyond their comprehension. They enjoy the rhythm and cadence of the words.”
This gentle insistence on the richness of language aims to cultivate a love for storytelling and literature in the hearts of children, allowing them to revisit and grow with the book over time.
More than just a charming story, “Pangolin Prophecy” serves as a vital reminder of the threats facing pangolins globally.
As the most trafficked mammal on the planet, a tale like Barry's not only entertains but profoundly educates about the ecological and ethical responsibilities we share.
As readers journey through the pages of the book, they are not merely absorbing a charming story but are also called to embrace a larger purpose - an empowering understanding of wildlife conservation and the intrinsic value of every creature in our shared environment.
The official launch of “Pangolin Prophecy” is set for Friday, March 14, at the David Krut Bookstore in Johannesburg, from 3pm to 5pm.
This beautiful book will be available for purchase, inviting families and individuals alike to engage with the important themes woven throughout its pages.
