Celebrities have come together to support Christall Kay, a star from The Real Housewives of Johannesburg, following allegations of bullying on The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Africa (UGT).
After Showmax released the trailer for the latest episode, both celebrities and netizens expressed their outrage over Christall's treatment by her castmates.
Kay was the last member of the cast to arrive in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the show was filmed.
After three episodes, the reality TV star decided to leave the vacation villa to protect her mental peace.
This decision followed heated disagreements with castmates, including Mariam Timmer from The Real Housewives of Lagos, Princess Jecoco from The Real Housewives of Abuja, and Annie Mthembu and Angel Ndlela from The Real Housewives of Durban.
“I have not commented on the show yet as I am in the USA 🇺🇸 on vacation. I see clips of it on my socials. Firstly, this UGT Africa is extremely disturbing to watch; the way the girls rallied together to bully Christall was appalling.
"@goatoriginals.tv, this was not fun to watch. Yes, on my season, I thought it was a bit kooky, but it was all fun. We all understood her. @showmaxonline, constantly showing women bully women is not entertaining television,” wrote Liz Prinsloo, a castmate from The Real Housewives of Gqeberha.
DJ and artist Lady Du remarked: “A person moving from a mansion to a two-bedroom apartment is weaponised 💔💔💔💔. What is it supposed to do, embarrass her?”
South African activist Zulaika Patel expressed her dismay, saying, “I can’t believe we’ve really turned bullying into entertainment. I’m not sure about this type of content. This can’t be normalised; honestly, this is contributing to the decay of our society. 🚮”
Radio personality Eva Modika added, “This is very disturbing to watch! @showmaxonline, noooo.”
Following the airing of the episode, Kay appeared on the Engineer Your Life Podcast, where she opened up about her experiences on the show.
“If you have ever watched Real Housewives from the start, the edits have been quite accurate. You’ll see that I’ve never started insulting any of those ladies. I’ve never been that girl who said one nasty thing about their dress, their eye, their bag, or anything else. I’ve only reacted to them coming for me,” she stated.
“I challenge anyone to find a place where I started the fight,” said Kay.
In a separate incident, she was allegedly involved in a violent physical clash with DJ Tira’s wife, Gugu Khathi, on The Real Housewives of Johannesburg season 3.
The clash, which happened at a nightclub in Pretoria, resulted in Kay suffering injuries, including a black eye.
Kay claims the incident was recorded on camera.
As a result of the altercation, which also reportedly involved fellow cast member Brinnette Seopela, filming was stopped, and season 3 was ultimately cancelled.
It is reported that both Kay and Khathi opened assault cases against each other following the incident.
The assault was never aired as the season did not make it to television. Kay said that though she didn't formally continue with the case, she might do so in the future.
