Hollywood is buzzing right now as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially unveiled the nominees for the 98th Academy Awards.

Amid massive sweeps and jaw-dropping snubs, one name has dominated the conversation: “Sinners”.

Ryan Coogler’s latest masterpiece has done the unthinkable, shattering the record by securing a staggering 16 Oscar nominations.

By crossing the 14-nomination threshold previously held by legends like “Titanic” and “La La Land”, “Sinners” has officially cemented its status as the "main character" of the 2026 awards season.

A two-horse race at the top

While “Sinners” leads the pack, it isn't the only heavyweight in the ring.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” followed closely behind with a massive 13 nominations, setting the stage for an epic showdown come Oscar night.

Both films are vying for the night’s ultimate prize: Best Picture.

Best Picture Nominees:

  • Sinners
  • One Battle After Another
  • Bugonia
  • Frankenstein
  • F1
  • Hamnet
  • Marty Supreme
  • The Secret Agent
  • Sentimental Value
  • Train Dreams

The battle for best actor

The Best Actor category is a literal "Clash of the Titans" this year.

Michael B. Jordan earns a well-deserved nod for his powerhouse performance in “Sinners”, but he faces stiff competition from Oscar royalty.

Leonardo DiCaprio is back in the mix for “One Battle After Another”, while Timothée Chalamet continues his incredible run for “Marty Supreme”.

Chalamet is currently the frontrunner after his recent Golden Globe win, but in a room full of A-listers, including Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura, anything can happen.

Shocking snubs and golden glows

The biggest shocker? The Wicked stars were left out in the cold. Despite heavy buzz, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo did not receive any nominations, leaving fans of the musical epic stunned.

On the flip side, the momentum for Teyana Taylor is unstoppable.

After her emotional Golden Globe win for “One Battle After Another”, Taylor has officially secured her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She joins a competitive field including Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners) and the double-threat from Sentimental Value, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.
