After his One Man Concert was disrupted by a severe rainstorm in Durban, Kelvin Momo (real name Thato Kelvin Ledwaba) has received strong support from fans, who have vowed to stand by him despite the setback.
The amapiano producer was scheduled to perform at Moses Mabhida Stadium’s People’s Park on Sunday, April 5.
However, the concert was cancelled after a storm flooded the venue.
VVIP attendees were forced to evacuate their tent when the structure gave in under the heavy downpour.
Other concertgoers sought shelter under the limited marquee tents, while some were left drenched as the storm swept through the park.
Several attendees were seen walking barefoot after their clothes and shoes had become soaked.
Footage of the heavy rain quickly circulated on social media, with concertgoers sharing their experiences from the event.
The concert was organised by Benny Maverick and featured a line-up that included Zee Nxumalo, Kings of The Weekend, Sykes and Distruction Boyz, among others.
In the aftermath, radio host Felix Hlophe took to Facebook to show support for Ledwaba, encouraging him to try again despite the disruption.
“I think Kelvin Momo should do it again. We will support him again. He owes it to himself.”
Hlophe’s comments drew mixed reactions from social media users.
Zamani Dube commented: “He must bring all his vocalists on his albums first.”
Wendy Thabile Nxumalo said: “Nah, his event organisers let him down. There should’ve been a dome like 'Anywhere in Your City'. Everyone should’ve been sheltered and VIP cordoned off closer to the stage.”
Nokwanda Luhle Nala added: “Yes, he must do it. We will come.”
While Mendz Muthwa said: “Yea but tell him not on weekend when we celebrating the Lord”, reflecting sentiments that the concert should not have taken place on Easter Sunday.
Some fans also expressed concern that Ledwaba might miss future appearances after he failed to pitch for a scheduled performance at Marks Pub and Shisanyama on April 2, 2026.
Sizwe Dlomo took to X to share his views:
“Someone should warn Kelvin Momo. Some promoters don’t play that. It’s a very dangerous game he’s playing. A missed gig is not just about the money you’re paid, people commit millions to their events.”
A statement released on April 3 addressed the absence and apologised for the missed performance.
“Kelvin Momo would like to extend his sincere apologies to all stakeholders, partners and fans regarding his absence from the scheduled performance at Marks Pub and Shisanyama on 2 April 2026. Due to ongoing band rehearsals in preparation for his upcoming Kelvin Momo Live Concert, his schedule was significantly constrained.
"Unfortunately, this resulted in him missing the last available flight from Durban, which prevented him from attending the gig as planned.
We understand the disappointment and inconvenience this may have caused and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Kelvin Momo remains fully committed to his supporters and looks forward to making it up to everyone at the next opportunity.”
