Rachel Kolisi recently disclosed why she decided to keep her ex-husband Siya Kolisi's surname following their divorce.
In a candid interview with 947 FM, the businesswoman shared that her decision is deeply rooted in prioritising her children and to avoid the constant questioning from strangers whenever they travel.
“It’s because my children share the same surname as me and travelling with them, because they are brown, it’s already a big challenge,” she revealed.
A common difficulty the pair encounters while travelling, she added, is the persistent questioning about their relationship, largely stemming from the difference in their skin colours.
“Sometimes I get stopped at gates, and people want to double-check certain things; so it would be a really big challenge for me, so I’m keeping my surname,” she said.
The philanthropist further shared that the common question she always gets is “Are those your kids?” and added that she already faces challenges, so when she changes her surname, it’s not gonna get any better.
Siya and Rachel tied the knot in 2016, and the pair shockingly announced their divorce in 2024.
We have seen that the Springboks captain has already moved on and is reportedly dating Nigerian-Dutch model Rachel John. The pair has been spotted multiple times attending events together and going on trips.
On the other hand, we have seen Rachel open up about the emotional rollercoaster of life after divorce through her "Falling Forward" initiative, which includes a book release.
During this interview with the radio station, she said people always say she “must move on”.
She added that when it comes to comments from people telling her to move on, she wants everyone to know that she is fine by herself because moving on does not only happen when you are attached to someone new.
“I find it so funny in some of the joyous comments that I’ve received on social media over the last couple of months. When people are like, ‘Just move on already, find someone else’, and I find it so interesting that’s what is considered moving on.
“Only when you are with somebody else. Like, I’m good actually by myself. I don’t think I’ve ever been better,” she said.
