DStv backtracks over Dish mag

DSTV's Dish magazine. DSTV's Dish magazine.

They stopped the Dish magazine programme schedules and they felt the subscriber backlash against that action – now, after a survey among its subscribers, DStv has decided to reinstate programme schedules.

This was the word yesterday from Multichoice, which added that subscribers should not expect any changes in the Dish magazine before September.

The Mercury was inundated with letters from readers who were outraged at DStv’s decision.

In response to subscribers’ feedback about changes to the Dish magazine, MultiChoice recently conducted a poll to determine each subscriber’s preference for the magazine.

“Approximately a quarter of our South African subscriber base exercised their choice. As expected, we received a mixed bag of responses, with some wanting the lifestyle magazine only, others wanting the schedules with the lifestyle section, and yet others not wanting a magazine at all,” said a spokesman.

“As a result of the feedback and for practical reasons we will be producing a single version of the Dish magazine, which will include both the lifestyle section and the schedules.

“This magazine will go to all subscribers who indicated a positive response to receiving any form of the Dish magazine. Subscribers who did not respond, as well as those subscribers who indicated they did not want to receive a mag at all, will not be sent one.”

The spokesman added that as a result of long lead-in times for printing and distribution, the Dish magazine would be available to subscribers only as of September.

“We will be sending a letter to subscribers confirming the choice they’ve exercised and that it is correctly captured on our side.”
