Durban – The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) office in KwaMashu was officially opened at a new location on Monday morning.

The new office is situated on Mduduzi Msomi Road in KwaMashu’s P Section, KwaMashu.

Sassa had to find a new location following the closure of its local KwaMashu office at Bridge City Mall after it was torched during the July, 2021 civil unrest.

Sassa’s services were being administered at the hall in L Section prior to the opening of its new office.

Sandy Godlwana, Sassa’s KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, said Sassa was excited to have a new office in KwaMashu.

She said Sassa’s business hours were from Mondays to Fridays from 7.30am to 4pm.

Godlwana said Sassa had secured an office that was suitable in terms of location, space, security, shelter for clients and access to ablution facilities.

“In July2021, the KwaMashu office at Bridge City Mall was torched during the unrest which affected our provision of services. This compelled Sassa to halt its operations at Bridge City Mall as the environment was not conducive to rendering services due to damage to assets such as computers, furniture, files and vehicles.”

Godlwana said prior to the office’s reopening, services had been available at the L-Section Hall in KwaMashu, with clients also able to use Inanda and the Prophet Isaiah Shembe offices to access Sassa services.
