Twelve-year-old child star Aakriti Sharma, who plays the role of Kulfi in the television series “Kulfi Kumar Bajewala” which is also known as “Kulfi the Singing Star”, is coming to South Africa to perform in the “Heart to Heart with Kulfi” concert in Durban and Johannesburg this week.
Producer and host of the concert Shashika Mooruth confirmed that the star, who is from Mumbai in India, will be landing in South Africa on Thursday, just a few days ahead of her performances.
South Africans watched the popular show on Starplus in Hindi from 2018 to 2022 and then on Starlife in English, she said.
Mooruth said Kulfi has a huge following in South Africa.
The show was scheduled to take place in 2020 but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I am glad to be able to make it happen at last,” she said.
Aakriti said she is very excited to come to South Africa at last.
“Our show was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic but Aunty Shashika promised we will come soon and here we are. I cannot wait to meet all my fans,” she said.
Mooruth said “Heart to Heart” is a musical and chat show that offers fans a fun and unique experience of interacting with the star.
“Aakriti will interact with her audiences so be prepared to jump onto the stage! She will also entertain with dance to popular film hits. There is also a surprise item where we hope to get the entire venue dancing,” she said.
Mooruth is also bringing Rashi Harmalkar, 18, who sang all the songs in the original Hindi series as Kulfi’s voice, to perform in the concert.
“I promised these kids that I will bring them to South Africa and I am going all out to ensure that our audiences have a great show,” she said.
Rashi will be performing with Kulfi and will sing songs of Shreya Ghoshal and tribute to Lata Mangeshkar who died earlier this year, she said.
“Rashi is a student of Bollywood playback legend Suresh Wadkar. She has performed and recorded with Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu,” Mooruth added.
Mooruth said these singers are not only stars but also role models for other children.
She said both girls worked long hours on set and at the recording studio but also managed to keep up with their studies.
“I feel that they are such an inspiration. This is something South Africans don't know about them and that's why ‘Heart to Heart’ is so special,” she said.
