The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal has urged the public to act responsibly by verifying information before sharing content on social media platforms.

This comes after a disturbing video that has been circulating on the internet depicts a minor being sexually violated by an elderly man, and the incident was alleged to have happened in KwaZulu-Natal.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education this week clarified that the incident did not occur in KwaZulu-Natal.

“The video, which depicts the rape of a minor by an elderly man, did not occur in Inanda, affecting one of the learners in Zwelisha School, as alleged. The incident in question took place in Mozambique,” said Mahlambi.

The perpetrator in the video is said to have been apprehended by the relevant law officials.

“The Department is relieved to confirm that the perpetrator of this heinous crime was immediately arrested by the relevant law enforcement agency in his country,” said Mahlambi.
