A security officer was injured when robbers blew up a cash van on the N2 north bound near Chesterville on Monday night.
ALS Paramedics said in a statement that when paramedics arrived on the scene they found the police already in attendance.
The police were dispersing members of the public who were looting money that had been dispersed during the explosion.
“SAPS quickly dispersed the looters and Paramedics were shown to two security personnel who were in the vehicle at the time of the robbery. Paramedics assessed the two men and one of them had sustained minor to moderate injuries as a result of the explosion and he was treated by ALS Paramedics.”
The private ambulance service said the N2 highway is closed off to allow investigations to continue at the scene.
The incident comes after the police arrested an alleged cash-in-transit robber on Saturday and recovered explosives in Inanda.
In a statement, police said vigilant members of the Inanda Trio Task Team were patrolling in the vicinity of Ithendele Road and M25 Curnick Ndlovu Highway when they noticed a white VW Polo which was parked on the side of the road.
“Police approached the vehicle and upon searching it, police found explosives with detonators concealed in a backpack in the boot of the vehicle. The suspect was subsequently arrested.”
The suspect is expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court this week.
